Three months ago when I embarked on this next chapter in my life, I really didn’t know what I wanted to do. All I had known for most of the past 25 years had been what I considered to to be the traditional work environment – granted, in multiple industries and in radically different environments, but still typical for me. I was on-call 24/7 (I had served as spokesperson for my organizations for the past 16 years), I worked a fast-paced 45+ hour work week, I attended evening and weekend events – at least one a week, and I regularly worked late into the night, often in bed with a laptop on my lap.
To all of a sudden stop that pace was a blessing. It gave me a chance to recognize my family again, and to enjoy my life. I had the opportunity to reinvent myself.
So I started meeting with career and business coaches. I met with former colleagues, friends and professional contacts. I attended community events and increased my involvement with some nonprofits. I picked my son up from school and had coffee with my husband. I went on vacation, only checked email for fun, and didn’t get a single phone call. I seriously considered several job opportunities, and started some project work. And I came to a decision.
I want to work for myself. I want to control my own destiny, and I want to make things better for as many organizations and for as many people as I can, for as long as I can. I want to use my expertise and my experience to elevate the efforts of my clients. And so, I am so excited to introduce you to Fionix Consulting LLC, a communications and community outreach consulting firm.
Through Fionix Consulting (pronounced as phoenix), I will offer internal and external communications services – from strategic communications planning to special events and everything in between. I will offer community outreach counseling, helping businesses take their outreach efforts to the next level while aligning those programs with their brands and business outcomes, and helping nonprofits better utilize their limited resources to maximize their missions. I will also help individuals with their resumes, LinkedIn profiles and personal brands. You can learn more at FionixConsulting.com. I hope you will take the time to follow the company on Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook, and I hope you will reach out and let me know how I can help you and your organization.
So why Fionix? I love the imagery of the phoenix rising. But the name “phoenix” is everywhere, so I went searching for international and phonetic spellings. I came across “fionix” and loved it. And then I found the golden nugget. Urban Dictionary defines “fionix” as, “a girl who isn’t afraid to fight. Some people even call her the alpha. She normally has blond hair and slightly different colored eyes. She is strong, fearless, and loyal.”
Destiny.
